Andrew started playing golf at the age of 22 and within the space of 2 years achieved a low single figure handicap. After working in the property industry, his passion and enthusiasm for golf has lead him to change career and after a few years working in golf retail, is now undertaking his PGA coaching qualifications and is excited to begin his new position as PGA Assistant Professional at South Herts.

He enjoys coaching players of all abilities and believes in helping every golfer achieve their maximum potential, with a belief that there is not a ‘One method suits all’ approach, tailoring his coaching to the individual. He enjoys helping golfers of all ages and takes great pride in seeing the transformations in his client's game.

    Bobby Wayne Mitchell (February 23, 1943 – March 20, 2018) was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour.

    Mitchell was born in Chatham, Virginia and was raised in nearby Danville, Virginia. He dropped out of high school and turned pro at 15. He won the Virginia State Golf Association Open, the Virginia State PGA Open and the Carolinas PGA Championship before joining the PGA Tour.[1]

    Mitchell won two PGA Tour events during his career: the 1971 Cleveland Open and the 1972 Tournament of Champions. He had more than two dozen top-10 finishes in PGA Tour events including more than a half-dozen 2nd or 3rd-place finishes. His best finish in a major was T2 at the 1972 Masters Tournament.[2]

    Since 1991, Mitchell has traveled to Finland in the summer to teach golf to young people in association with Averett University. Mitchell joined the Champions Tour in 1995; his best finish in a Champions Tour event is a T-12 at The Transamerica in 1995.[1]

    Mitchell died on March 20, 2018 from a presumed heart attack at Lynchburg General Hospital.[3][4]

    PGA golf pro Bobby Mitchell passed away last week at the age of 75. Mitchell was known for winning events such as the 1971 Cleveland Open and the 1972 Tournament of Champions. In that tournament, he defeated Jack Nicklaus. In addition to that, Mitchell finished in second place in the 1972 Masters.

    Bobby Mitchell’s brother, Junior Mitchell, said he traveled with Bobby on several of his tours and caddied for him. Junior Mitchell said that he traveled with the PGA Tour for awhile as well. The two of them met a lot of people through golf.

    “We had a good relationship,” Junior Mitchell said. “He knew a ton of people at the Danville Golf Club and we had a bunch of people come to his service.”

    Bobby Mitchell was a native of Chatham and at the age of 15, he dropped out of school to become a professional golfer.

    In an effort to give back to his community, Mitchell traveled with Averett University each summer to coach young people.

    “He was great,” Junior Mitchell said. “He’d do anything for you he loved golf. It was his life.”

    Before joining the PGA Tour, Bobby Mitchell won victories in the Virginia State Golf Association Open, the Virginia State PGA Open and the Carolinas PGA Championship.

    In addition to his victories as a member of the PGA Tour, he also earned over 20 top 10 finishes.

    “I thought a lot of him,” Junior Mitchell said. “I’m going to really miss him and I’ve had some of his closes friends tell me that they’re going to really miss him.”
