Cla sport mode

cla sport mode

On the road, the CLA 4MATIC accelerates adequately in “Comfort” mode. Use “Sport” mode and the vehicle comes alive and holds gears longer. While Comfort mode is slightly more responsive than the Eco mode, it does away with the coasting bit when you get off the accelerator pedal. The Comfort setting proved to be a little soft because it keys on economy rather than performance. Sport is wonderful on a twisty back road and.

Cla sport mode - think

The Mercedes-Benz CLA 4MATIC does not stick to the usual sports sedan script. Starting with it being a coupe.

What is it?

The Mercedes-Benz CLA 4MATIC is a premium compact four-door, five-passenger car. Mercedes calls this vehicle a coupe. We have no problem with that. If a tomato is called a vegetable, not a fruit, then why can&#;t a four-door car be a coupe?

Looking for a great sedan or coupe? Start your search at casinoextra.fr

Pricing and trims

The Mercedes-Benz CLA 4MATIC coupe starts at about $39K in front-wheel drive. The top-of-the-line CLA 45 begins at around $57K. We tested a mid-trim CLA with 4Matic all-wheel drive and a healthy assortment of important options. The as-tested price came to $50, That puts this vehicle squarely into competition with the Genesis G70 T  Sport AWD and Tesla Model 3.

Performance

The CLA 4MATIC has a hp liter turbocharged engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters. This is a typical entry-level engine and transmission type for premium sporty vehicles. For this price point, it seems a bit anemic, but just on paper. The Genesis G70 we recently tested was priced at $53, and had a much more powerful liter turbocharged V6. Tesla uses an electric drivetrain of course and has similar torque, but it feels stronger because the torque is instantaneous.

Mercedes says the CLA 4MATIC will sprint to sixty from a stop in about seconds. Mercedes makes a more powerful version of this car, but the price jumps by more than 15%. On the road, the CLA 4MATIC accelerates adequately in &#;Comfort&#; mode. Use &#;Sport&#; mode and the vehicle comes alive and holds gears longer.  It&#;s hard to argue that anyone needs more thrust than the vehicle can generate in Sport mode.

Ride and handling

The ride and handling of the CLA 4MATIC are superb in all situations. The car has a refined and solid feel that makes highway driving satisfying. On back roads, the CLA 4MATIC steers sharply and spirited driving is a joy. The upgraded AMG brakes work perfectly as well. Pedal feel is just right and the car stops on a dime. Best of all, broken up roads don&#;t make the CLA 4MATIC feel harsh. Mercedes has this car dialed in. Of the many ways this vehicle is satisfying, the ride is its most obvious way Mercedes is ahead of the pack.  We should note that our impressions were formed with the test vehicle wearing winter tires, not the sport tires it would ship to a dealer with. That impresses us even more.

Seating

The front seats are covered in premium microfiber suede that feels very comfortable in winter. Although the sport seats look track-ready and stiff, we found them to be very comfortable. We like the extendable thigh adjustment. The heated seat controls are on the door panel of all places.

Rear seating is tight for adults, but in this class that is the reality. If you want a large back seat Mercedes-Benze has a dozen other models to fill that desire.

Cargo

The cargo volume of the CLA class is cubic feet. That is a bit larger than the 10 cubic feet offered by the Genesis G Unlike in the G70, there is no spare tire in the CLA

Infotainment, Controls, and Interior

Overall, the CLA 4MATIC is plush and stylish inside. It is dramatically more luxurious than a Tesla Model 3 in our opinion, and a close match to the top-trim Genesis G70 in terms of overall panache. The CLA has an unusual infotainment array we grew very fond of during testing. There is one large rectangular screen spanning the center of the dash to the driver&#;s gauge area. We found the display to be sharp, clear, and super useful. First off, the center section acts as a touch screen. We like the ease of use of a touch interface. There is also a simple to operate remote user interface on the center console.

Mercedes has its own controls scheme. The steering wheel controls are on the opposite side of almost every other brand. The drive selector mode is a small stalk on the right of the steering wheel where wiper controls typically reside. Some seat controls are on the side of the seat, some on the front of it, and some on the door. It sounds like a mess, but it works. We adapted in moments, and found that it all makes good sense if you give it a shot. One thing we really liked was the button-switch operated climate controls that were divorced from the infotainment screen for the most part. You can do all the most frequent things like turn up the temperature with a tactile switch.

The CLA is also well-suited to the tech-savvy. For example, its phone interface uses the more modern smaller USB-C inputs. We used an adapter to connect with Android Auto with no difficulties. The Android Auto integration also extends to the gauge cluster. The phone tray charges the device and even has a small sliding holder that keeps it from flying around in sporty drives.  When in the tray, your phone can use near-field communication (NFC) protocol to communicate with the car. One added feature we will be looking for in from Mercedes will be wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. BMW is now rolling that nice feature out in its current product line.

Unfortunately, there was no heat for the steering wheel and no head-up display. At this price point, in this type of vehicle, those are omissions that we think shoppers will miss.

Overall

It is easy for some enthusiasts to dismiss cars like the Mercedes CLA 4MATIC due to its seemingly high price tag, because it is not the fastest vehicle in a spec-sheet battle, or the fact that it is a sports sedan built on a front-wheel drive platform. However, we have tested a BMW 3 Series ($58,), Genesis G70 ($53,), Acura TLX ($50,) and Infiniti Q50 ($60,) in the past two months. None of them were more satisfying to drive than the Mercedes CLA 4MATIC and all of them cost more. Surprisingly, this car from Mercedes-Benz, the brand with the most cachet, is the bargain of the bunch.

There are vehicles that one can drive faster on a racetrack than this Mercedes CLA-Class vehicle. Many of them are built by Mercedes. But in the real world, this car is a blast to drive assertively and very pleasant to just cruise in. Those looking for a fun, luxurious, classy, modern sports sedan at a price that is at the low end of the segment&#;s range need look no further than the CLA 4MATIC from Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes-Benz CLA Sport First Drive Review

What is it?

What you're eye-balling here is the CLA-class, Mercedes-Benz’ entry level saloon. Assuming everybody knows that this is basically the saloon avatar of an A-Class, let's delve deeper. The recent facelift is the model’s first major update in India since its launch in , and exterior upgrades include a redesigned front bumper, new LED headlamps, restyled tail lamps, more chrome and angular exhaust tips.

The CLA-Class undeniably packs some shapely curves that could even put a few FTV models to shame, and also has a resemblance to its elder sibling, the striking CLS-Class. The design lines are so pleasing to the eye, it can almost be the single most important reason to plonk for it in the segment. From the characteristic broad shoulders, prominent fascia, aggressively tapering roofline, and detailing; everything about the CLA has been crafted with style in mind.

How is it on the inside?

Let’s face it, the CLA’s cabin looks fascinating thanks to the sporty dash with unique silver trim, front seats, turbine styled vents, clutter free button layout and a large infotainment screen. Adding to the appeal is the pristine build quality, soft touch-points, and those sexy frameless doors.

As part of the facelift, the CLA now gets a new look instrument cluster, revised Drive Select for the pre-set modes, an updated COMAND system with new graphics, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and an 8-inch screen instead of the earlier 7-inch one.

Electrically adjustable front seats with fixed headrests offer lots of contours, support and cushioning on both the backrest and seat squab. There’s also adequate legroom and head room coupled with the manually adjustable thigh support which makes for an otherwise comfortable driving position. Due to the sloping roofline, one will have to watch their head while entering or exiting the rear portion of the CLA.

The rear, on the other hand, has a decent backrest angle, is well cushioned and appropriately contoured too. However, there’s no doubt that it is strictly a four seater. In fact, inadequate leg and head room, non-existent thigh support, a front seat that’s too imposing, and a rear glass section that’s ridiculously confined, makes for a rear seat experience that’s nothing short of claustrophobic. Also, with the space-saver spare wheel occupying a lot of space, one will have to place their luggage appropriately.

Some of the features on the CLA Sport include LED head lamps and tail lamps, diamond radiator grille with pins in high-gloss black, inch five spoke alloys, panoramic sunroof, rectangular chromed tailpipes, eight inch infotainment screen, tyre pressure monitoring, hill-start assist, ABS with brake assist, Attention assist, and ESP with acceleration skid control.

How does it drive?

Mechanically, the CLA is identical to the pre-facelift model and continues to be powered by the litre four-cylinder turbo petrol that makes bhp at rpm and Nm of torque at rpm. A quick shifting seven speed dual-clutch auto transmission (with paddle shifters) works in tandem with this motor. On the move, what instantly catches your attention, is the free revving nature of this responsive motor at almost any speed.

Users can take advantage of pre-set modes called Eco, Comfort, Individual and Sport that change the manner in which the engine and gearbox responds to throttle inputs. In Eco mode, engine responses are sedate and the transmission is in a hurry to shift up, and also coast (gliding mode) when you get off the accelerator pedal. Expect the best efficiency in this mode, though. Mild to medium throttle inputs makes the engine use the current gear to lug the speeds up gradually. It is only after you depress the pedal further that the gearbox will shift a cog down to deliver the extra response.

While Comfort mode is slightly more responsive than the Eco mode, it does away with the coasting bit when you get off the accelerator pedal. That said, it is the Sport mode that makes this engine and gearbox the liveliest. Performance is crisp from the word ‘go’, all the way up to the rpm redline and it clocked the run to kmph from standstill in an impressive sec. The engine is always in a lower gear to allow for rapid response the instant the throttle is nudged, and this was depicted by our kmph and kmph sprints that took sec and sec. Also, one can immediately take over by using the paddle shifters in any mode and shift as per their requirement. It comes handy when you need to make a spirited manoeuvre in Eco mode.

Despite the CLA’s suspension setup tilting slightly towards being firm, we believe engineers have struck the right balance by making the ride comfortable but thoroughly enjoyable when driven spiritedly. Bad road patches can be felt and heard within the cabin but never to the extent where the occupants feel uncomfortable.

One can attack corners on the CLA with reasonable confidence, but what plays spoilsport in an otherwise potent package is the feedback from the steering. It feels vague just when you’re ready for some aggressive action around bends, especially when compared to the Audi A3. With ‘Comfort’ and ‘Sport’ modes to select from that alter the steering response; Comfort gets the steering markedly lighter while Sport mode makes the steering decidedly heavier. Although the CLA is good, it does not match the A3 in terms of dynamics.

Should I buy one?

With the C-Class moving up the price equation, the CLA has picked a sweet spot for someone looking to graduate to an entry level Merc saloon. Clearly, the CLA isn't meant for those looking to be chauffeured around as the rear portion of the cabin is unreasonably confined for space and has a restricted view. However, it has the looks, spirited performance, premium and sporty interiors, and optimum front seat comfort. If you’re not interested in its rear cabin comfort, then the CLA has the essence to spice up your drive and lifestyle.

What's the difference between Sport mode and Sport Plus?

What's the difference between Sport mode and Sport Plus?

Today while I was driving, I switched from Comfort mode to Sport+ mode and noticed that the car became more:

Aggressive
Responsive
Sportier
Louder (I could definitely hear the exhaust)
Snappier
Higher RPM than normal and increases really fast
Shifts faster than comfort (I think it did)

I think even the braking of the car changed
it became stronger, rougher, more responsive

for some reason I felt like the car was lowered a little while I was driving in Sport+ mode Maybe because I was going a little fast or maybe because of the wind/air
Or it might be my imagination

It felt completely different than Comfort mode. In comfort mode, I don't feel like i'm driving or moving at all, its so smooth (comfortable) compared to the Sport+ which felt like I actually drove the car for the first time

Anyway, So what is the difference between the Sport and the Sport+ mode? I tried the Sport mode two months ago, but I don't remember

What's the point of having Sport and Sport + instead of just Sport mode? Are they that different?

HANNOVER, GERMANY — As it did with its original four-door coupe (the CLS), Mercedes-Benz is opening up another niche in the market as it launches the souped-up version of the swoopy CLA. In AMG form, this car gets a serious infusion of style and, more importantly, performance.

When compared to its regular sibling, the 45 AMG adds a more aggressive look that includes AMG’s attractive “twin blade” grille and a bolder front valance with larger air intakes. Factor in the bolstered side sills and a deeper rear valance with a pair of chrome tailpipes and it looks like it means business. If there is a nit to pick, it is that the exhaust note lacks some of the ferocity for which AMG is famous. It is lively, no question, but the famed snap and snarl only surfaces on an upshift under flat-out acceleration or on a hard downshift as the engine rev-matches. In fairness, it does sound way better outside the car than in it.

Inside, the 45’s boldly bolstered front seats deliver vastly better lateral support, there’s a chunkier flat-bottomed steering wheel and attractive aluminum accents. While the changes are fairly subtle, they are significant.

The rest of the differences, however, are manifold. The 45’s power comes from a turbocharged AMG engine with an air-to-water intercooler. Its overt urgency is channelled to the wheels through a seven-speed twin-clutch transmission and a sportier version of Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. It is a blend of ingredients that says fun — when driven with purpose, the CLA 45 AMG delivers exactly as promised.

While the turbocharged four-cylinder displaces a modest litres, it has been massaged such that it delivers the power expected of a much larger unit — horsepower (a cool hp more than the mortal CLA) and a stout pound-feet of torque at 2, rpm. At this point, it is the most powerful production four-banger around. Suffice to say, how it piles on the speed is sublime. Hey, anything with a peak turbo boost of (gasp!) 26 psi is not to be taken lightly.

The engine begins to make hay very quickly and is commendable for its lack of turbo lag — given the size of the twin-scroll turbo, I expected an early bout of laziness. It never surfaced. My hand-held stopwatch clocked the run from rest to kilometres an hour at seconds — Mercedes says it takes , but who’s counting? It also eclipsed the more important tokm/h test in a blindingly fast four seconds, which speaks to the level of performance at play. A big part of the alacrity boils down to how the power is put to pavement — none of it is wasted spinning the optional P/35R19 tires featured on the test cars. Just let it rip and hang on.

The seven-speed twin clutch transmission includes three different driving modes and a Racestart function that sees the CLA 45 rocket off the line when it’s engaged. The three modes — Comfort, Sport and Manual — deliver the power in very different ways. The Comfort setting proved to be a little soft because it keys on economy rather than performance. Sport is wonderful on a twisty back road and it managed to potter around town without feeling like the engine was chomping at the bit. There’s also a “momentary” manual feature. Regardless of whether in Comfort or Sport, the paddle shifters remain active and ready to drop a cog or two before reverting to fully automated shifting after a few seconds of inactivity. There is also a full-on manual mode — it is a true manual mode that will crash into the rev-limiter if the driver does not initiate an upshift.

Under normal circumstances, 4Matic drives the front wheels, however, as it monitors a number of inputs, it determines the optimum power split front to rear. While it does need some front wheel slippage to initiate the torque transfer, the system is fast enough it steps in long before things go pear-shaped. As such, it proved to be very adept at keeping unwanted wheelspin at bay.

The CLA 45 AMG’s handling is as refined as the rest of the car. While the ride is on the taut side, it proved to be compliantly comfortable about town. Find some twisty tarmac, of which there was plenty on the drive route, and the tautness eliminates body roll and delivers wonderful steering precision. It also displayed very little understeer even when flirting with the limits.

For a little added entertainment, the stability control system has been massaged to improve the fun factor. In the Normal mode, it clamps down on the fun the instant things start to go awry. The Sport allows a lot more latitude — the CLA does begin to drift before it steps in. The final mode is off, and it is an off position. While huge fun, it should be reserved for track days such is the 45’s potency — I managed to find myself well sideways in a corner before gathering things up.

On the track note, the CLA 45 AMG really did work very nicely when cut loose around the Bilster Berg race track — a tight and technically demanding track that features a lot of blind crests and blind corners. It pointed into the corners with precision and it could be drifted without becoming a white-knuckle affair. It really was very impressive and just as much fun.

The CLA 45 AMG is an intriguing car that really does not have any immediate competitors — the closest would be the Audi S3. Sitting between the B-Class and C-Class models, the newest AMG arrives in Canadian showrooms in November. Pricing has yet to be announced, but my guess is it will start around $50, (it starts at $47, in the U.S.), which will make it the most affordable AMG by quite a margin.

Drivers Enjoy Custom Performance with AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT

Mercedes-Benz DYNAMIC SELECT Driving Modes Explained

All new Mercedes-Benz vehicles are now fitted with DYNAMIC SELECT, technology that enables drivers to select a variety of driving modes.

Each changes the car’s response to driver inputs, tweaking its sensitivity to:

  • throttle inputs
  • gear changes
  • suspension height and stiffness
  • steering sharpness.

Several driving modes are fitted to each model as standard:

Comfort

This is the standard setting that you’ll get when you turn on the car. Featured on all models, there’s no ‘normal’ here; this option cleverly optimises the car’s settings for smoothness and refined driving.

ECO

Perfect for long-distance driving, this setting adjusts throttle, climate control and various other settings to reduce overall fuel usage.

Sport

This sharpens up your car’s responsiveness, making steering and throttle inputs more direct.

Revs are allowed to run up to higher RPMs before gear shifts - making greater use of high-rev torque in naturally-aspirated petrol cla sport mode. Suspension settings also become firmer, helping the car to corner more flatly at higher speeds.

Individual

This option gives you the chance to create and save your own, bespoke driving setting. If you prefer Sport steering settings, but Cla sport mode throttle and suspension, so be it. Ask our trained experts to show you how to do this, when you head out on your test drive.

Additional driving modes may also be fitted, depending on the nature and category of each model:

Sport+

Takes the Sport mode’s settings to their very extremes, further enhancing the car’s responsiveness and packing a powerful punch.

Slippery

Fitted to some four-wheel-drive models, this provides added traction in snowy and icy conditions by tightening the suspension and distributing power equally across both axles.

Off-Road

Fitted to SUVs, this raises the vehicle’s ride height to improve ground clearance when heading into difficult terrain. Power is distributed to the wheels with the most traction, so this mode helps cla sport mode keep you moving when conditions are muddy.

Off-Road+

Designed for extreme off-roading at low speeds, this keeps the vehicle in its lowest gears. Only available when you select an Off-Road Engineering package, this locks the differential to provide permanent 50/50 traction distribution across the front and rear axles.

Race

Fitted to some AMG models, this optimises the car for a track environment. The Race ntc rush soccer clermont promises rapid gearshifts, the sharpest throttle responses, the most responsive steering and suspension; and also tweaks the behaviour of some onboard driving aids.

Contact a member of the team at your local Inchcape Mercedes-Benz Retail Centre today to arrange a test drive in your chosen model, and you could experience DYNAMIC SELECT Driving Modes sooner than you think.

Revs are allowed to run up to higher RPMs before gear shifts - making greater use of high-rev torque in naturally-aspirated petrol models. Suspension settings also become firmer, helping the car to corner more flatly at higher speeds.

Individual

This option gives you the chance to create and save your own, bespoke driving setting. If you prefer Sport steering settings, but Comfort throttle and suspension, so be it.

Power is distributed to the wheels with the most traction, so this mode helps to keep you moving when conditions are muddy.

The Race setting promises rapid gearshifts, the sharpest throttle responses, the most responsive steering and suspension; and also tweaks the behaviour of some onboard driving aids.

Strap In for the Ride of Your Life

If you're looking for a sport sedan that holds up to all the hype, meet the new Mercedes-Benz CLA This car is the total package, by which we mean it does a lot more than go from 0 to 60 in seconds under the sunny Naples sun. From the suspension to the 18" wheels, every inch of this car has been engineered to be just a little tighter on the road than its many competitors.

If you put this into Sports Mode, the transmission is exceptionally responsive, adding more and more power so all you feel is the thrill of the acceleration. Plus, it takes corners like no sedan can, so have all the confidence in the world when you're under the gun. The grille design, air inlets, and front bumper all make for a more aggressive exterior, and the colorful and complex interior might just remind you of the inside of a race car. High-end materials like MB-Tex give structure to the technology and sleek displays. Yet despite the dramatic devices, the seats are comfortable, and the touchpoints are intuitive.

With seating for up to 5, the CLA 35 is a four-door that isn't quite as practical as most of its coupe cousins. Of course, practicality is unlikely to be why you're considering this car. Stylish and seductive, this peppy vehicle is similar in mechanics to the A35 and sports a liter turbo-four with horsepower and pounds-feet of torque. While you'd certainly prefer to drive it when you can really test its capabilities, it's still pretty comfortable when you're stuck in beach traffic too.
