Why Badminton?

We are serious about school badminton and are prioritising badminton in schools over the next few years. We run our annual schools competitions to offer students the chance to take-part and enjoy badminton.

Our sport is perfect for students as it is indoors, non-contact, is great for improving hand-eye co-ordination and anyone of any ability can try it. As badminton players progress, so too does their fitness levels, agility and racket skills; they also become tactically aware of why to hit certain shots and where to place them. Our sport is a great social outlet for students and there are also junior clubs in Palmerston North for those who want some extra-curricular badminton.

  1. I dropped 40 lbs fairly quickly doing a very low carb diet and I fell into eating one meal a day as a matter of pragmatism. I stuck with the one meal a day, as a matter of pragmatism, but eventually added carbs back in as my strength and explosiveness plummeted. I expected my lifts to drop from losing so much weight, but it was more than that. It was weird ... I'd walk into the gym feeling awesome and expecting to tear the fucking world in half. And then it was like I couldn't get my liftin pecker up. Everything felt heavy and the bar speed slowed to a crawl. I tried switching to lower intensity and higher volume, but it was only marginally better. I noticed the same thing in jiujitsu. I could roll forever at a much higher activity level than ever before, but I had no mat pressure, no holding strength, and no power when attempting to create space. After adding carbs back in, I feel way better in that regard.
