    BOOTS REVIEW: Canterbury's new range

Last week we gave away a pair of the all new Canterbury range of boots that features four different styles. There was a fair bit of interest, so here is a quick overview and review of what each boot is like and who it will be most suited to.

Canterbury were kind enough to send us some pairs of boots to try out, so here are the first opinions on this exciting new range that have been tailor-made for specific positional needs.

The Phoenix 2.0 Elite is a beautiful looking boot that is extremely comfortable but has a rigid feel to it, making it ideal for loose forwards who want a traditional fit but also need that extra speed in their game.

The exterior has be made with great attention to detail and as with all of these boots, looks ideal for wet-weather rugby.

The Speed 2.0 Elite is the lightest boot Canterbury has ever made, making it ideal for pacey backs whose priority is speed and stepping. It’s thin exterior includes a unique, barely-there tongue, streamlining the design and no doubt contributing to it’s light feel.

It has great grip, with just six main metal studs around seven plastic. The boot moulds to your foot, giving one a sense of reaching full potential with nothing holding you back. The design is bright yellow/green which some may not like, but is commonplace these days.

The third boot we tried is the Stampede 2.0 Club, a tight forwards boot that provides great comfort and durability, ideal for generating power. It has a wider fit so is perfect for players with broader feet.

This is also the most traditional looking of the four new boots, and offers great foot protection, eg: for close-quarter breakdown work and scrumming.

It’s difficult to pick a favourite as they are all suited to different needs, so decide what your requirements are, and you’ll find the perfect boot for you. All versions are now available on the Canterbury website.

    Phoenix 2.0 Elite

The Phoenix 2.0 Elite (£90, Club at £55) features explosive power and combines the characteristics of a power player with subtle agility. The use of a hybrid upper construction provides the lightweight performance needed by back row and loose forwards, ensuring you are always first to the breakdown.

This remastered version has improved forefoot dimensions and low profile collar to ensure the optimum rugby fit, and has a hybrid upper construction for lightweight performance and comfort. The 8 stud hybrid out-sole ensures traction in all conditions.

    Speed 2.0 Elite

Reactive Agility. The Speed 2.0 Elite (Elite at £90 and Club at £60) offers zero distraction and maximum performance from first wear right through the full 80. It’s Canterbury’s lightest boot to date, providing the ultimate in on-field performance and helping to make you uncatchable.

Suede-feel lining prevents foot movement and provides enhanced comfort. Heel raise provides dynamic foot positioning and reduces lower limb strain. The new 6-stud outsole is engineered to ensure 360 degree traction for reactive agility.

    Stampede 2.0

Unbreakable Force. The Stampede 2.0 (£55) is built for powerful tight-five players. It boasts a reinforced upper and a wider fit for comfort as well as a hybrid outsole that provides the traction that you need when driving the opposition back.

Reinforced upper with cushioning for durability and performance. Engineered on Canterbury’s new wide fit Powerlast. The 8-stud hybrid out-sole ensures traction in all conditions.

    Control 2.0

Ruthless Precision. The Control 2.0 (£60) is built for superior touch and finesse, helping you to find your target every time, whether you’re kicking from hand or from the tee.

It boasts an improved foot shape and low profile collar for improved touch and fit. Offset lacing for unrivalled control and comfort. Improved foot shaping and low profile collar ensure improved touch and fit. New 6 stud outsole provides traction on soft ground.

All boots are only suitable for natural grass surfaces and designed for enhanced traction and acceleration.

Canterbury Phoenix Raze Sg Junior Rugby Boots - AW17-4.5 - Black

    Features

Canterbury Phoenix Raze SG Junior Rugby Boots Built to be adaptable and durable, any player in any position can lace up in a pair of Canterbury Phoenix Raze SG Rugby Boots. Built in an extremely durable PU upper and a heavily padded to maximise comfort, ensuring it will last through all the physical sessions throughout the season. Targeting rugby players this boot comes with a wide foot base as well as a locked in the toe box and fore foot, meaning the foot won't budge during those fast paced movements. With an 8mm raised heel box limiting the strain on lower limbs, meaning players can last the full 80 minutes with limited strain. This boot comes with 6 detachable studs ensuring traction and agility in all weather conditions, limit the number of reset scrums and penalties conceded with better on foot support. Having the correct studs for the respective surface is crucial for any rugby player. The soft ground studs are ideally suited to pitches that are wet or have not quite dried out enough for firm ground studs. Having soft ground studs on a wetter pitch will enable you to make more explosive movements despite the difficult nature of the pitch and have a lesser impact on your game as you strive for the best performance and claim the victory.
