Welcome to the Surge

"I continue to be impressed with the organizational structure, passion and positive energy instilled in everyone who works/volunteers with the Surge. From teaching skills to the time, effort and thought that goes into creating balanced teams, this league should serve as the model for all youth lacrosse programs."

"The Surge has started something important in our area that is very well done. We are so thankful that our boys have discovered lacrosse from this program.”

“This is our last year of Surge lacrosse and we will definitely miss the amazing coaches and the instructional care they give to the kids. My son loves this sport and that love was nurtured substantially with this league.”

“It was my son’s first experience with touching a lacrosse stick and he absolutely loves it. The coaches and volunteers have exceeded all of our expectations for the type of leaders we want to see in our son’s sports experience!"

“It only takes one Surge practice to realize that the coaches are the real deal – they know the sport, have the passion and patience, and preach sportsmanship. This is not a bunch of dads that agreed to coach because no one else would. Lacrosse quickly became my son’s favorite sport.”

"I had the opportunity to bring my grandson to the last four practices. I was impressed by the way each practice was structured and executed, the individual attention players received from the coaches and volunteers and how dedicated people are to a sport. Good luck and GO SURGE."

“The entire program is extremely well run: Coaches and organizers respond quickly to emails/calls; are positive and supportive during practices; and maintain a caliber that is uncommonly high. We make the drive to Buckhead from East Point three days a week because we are so appreciative!"

Welcome To Academy of Lacrosse!

Academy of Lacrosse was formed as a 501c3 non-profit in May of 2012 and plays as Santa Monica Dragons and Fire Lacrosse. We first took to the field in December of 2012 as a 3rd and 4th grade team with 14 or so players. We played a "development season" in the West LA winter league in early 2013 and then won the 2013 Adrenaline Youth League Spring championship in the 3/4 division with a 14-0 record. Along the way we solidified our approach to teaching the sport and running our organization. The following year we were asked by other parents to start offering additional age levels, and we did.

Since 2012 we've grown from the original 14 players, to over 250. We run recreational and travel programs for boys and girls in grades 2 through 12, and we've become one of the most accomplished programs in Southern California. Our programming includes Lacrosse 101 introductory classes, Speed Lacrosse (stick skill development on the beach), positional clinics, athletic training, box lacrosse and team training for local and travel teams. We also run countless introductory clinics through out the year, usually in conjunction with a school or another organization, and they are usually free.

We believe in putting the highest quality product on the field. We do an excellent job of teaching the game of lacrosse, but just as importantly, our program teaches the players life lessons, a good work ethic and solid values. The result has been teams that play and compete at a very high level. We've won league championships, box tournaments, local tournaments, as well as state and regional tournament championships. But we're also the best place to send a beginner. An incoming 2nd or 3rd grader learns more in our program than he or she would anywhere else.

Academy of Lacrosse co-founders are Jim Gelb and Randy Grube. Our Athletic Director is Erik Krum, who is also head coach of the 2021 squad, our original team. Erik is responsible for infusing all of our teams with the knowledge, drive, focus and passion he brings to the game. Our Girls Program Director is Meghan Toomey who has done a wonderful job of establishing Dragons as one of the most robust girls programs in the area. More recently, Meghan launched the Fire brand, which is a regional program for advanced girls to play at the highest possible level, and to help the most passionate players find their way into a college program.

Origins Lacrosse Club

Our Process

With over 100 years of coaching experience, our staff has learned how to create solid lacrosse players and solid individuals.  We start with consistency in our teachings, terminology, and staff.  From there we help mold young men and women to become productive members of a team and society.  As a sports company, it may be surprising but our focus is on collaboration rather than on competition.  It is all about the team and no two members are treated the same.  We do not do cookie-cutter coaching; we build lasting relationships that transcend sport.  We use coaching as a stage to prepare our athletes for life.  Lacrosse is not life but for those with open minds, it will teach many of the important lessons that are required to live a fulfilling one.  We take pride in the fact that many of our players have gone on to become coaches themselves.

Our Core Values

The following core values will guide Hoosier Lacrosse in programming and play, now and in the future.  We believe our program has the potential to develop not only lacrosse skills but, more importantly, character values that will benefit today’s athlete in later years and other endeavors.  It’s not just about lacrosse. The Hoosier Lacrosse Academy is REAL Lacrosse!

  • Respect – Respect the game, your teammates, your coaches, and your opponents.
  • Effort – Always give 100%, both mentally and physically, during practices and games. Commit to the commitment!

  • Leadership – Be a real person of character by showing Respect, Effort, Accountability, and Leadership!
