Georgia State vs. Northeastern odds, line: College basketball picks, Nov. 12 predictions from proven model

The Georgia State Panthers had their appetizer on Tuesday and will get a main course when they host the Northeastern Huskies on Friday afternoon in Atlanta. The Panthers, who have been to three NCAA Tournaments since 2015, opened their season with a 97-37 home rout of NAIA Brewton-Parker College. The Huskies, who have made the NCAA's twice since 2015 as Colonial Athletic Conference champs, tipped off Tuesday against Division I Colgate and lost 65-58 on the road. The teams were regular opponents in the CAA from 2005-13 but haven't met since the Panthers bolted for the Sun Belt so the GSU football team could move up to the FBS level.

Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. ET at GSU Sports Arena in Atlanta. Caesars Sportsbook lists the Panthers as 6.5-point favorites in its latest Northeastern vs. Georgia State college basketball odds, and the Over-Under for total points scored is 139. Before making any Georgia State vs. Northeastern picks or college basketball predictions, make sure you check out what the red-hot SportsLine Projection Model has to say.

The SportsLine Projection Model simulates every Division I college basketball game 10,000 times. Over the past five years, the proprietary computer model has generated an impressive profit of $2,200 for $100 players on its top-rated college basketball picks against the spread. Anyone who has followed it has seen huge returns.

Now, the model has broken down Northeastern vs. Georgia State and locked in its coveted CBB picks and predictions. You can head to SportsLine now to see the model's picks. Here are the college basketball odds and trends for Georgia State vs. Northeastern:

  • Northeastern vs. Georgia State spread: Panthers -6.5
  • Northeastern vs. Georgia State over-under: 139 points
  • Northeastern vs. Georgia State money line: Panthers -300, Huskies +240
  • NE: It is 8-11-1 ATS in non-conference games since 2019
  • GS: It is 10-3-1 ATS in non-conference games since 2019

Why the Panthers can cover

Georgia State has every starter back from the Sun Belt's highest-scoring team last season. The Panthers averaged 80.3 points, and all five averaged double figures. Key forward Eliel Nsoseme is out indefinitely with a knee injury, but star guard Corey Allen leads the way and gets a lot of help from Kane Williams, Justin Roberts and Jalen Thomas. Ja'Heim Hudson and Nelson Phillips help fill the void left by Nsoseme's injury. Allen led the team at 15 points per game last season, followed by Roberts (13.2), Williams (12.9), Nsoseme (11.9) and Thomas (10.1).

It all looked familiar Tuesday night as Allen scored a team-high 20 points, Roberts added 19 and Phillips had 15. Roberts had six steals and Phillips had five as GSU had 21 as a team, and it blocked seven shots. Williams had 11 points and seven assists, while Thomas had a team-high six rebounds and blocked three shots. GSU led the Sun Belt in shooting percentage (46.8) and was third in opponent percentage (41.3) last season. Allen led the conference in 3-point shooting at 42.5 percent, and Roberts was the Sun Belt leader in assist/turnover ratio at 2.3.

Why the Huskies can cover

Northeastern had a tougher foe in its opener, and it led at halftime before Colgate caught fire and made 48 percent of its shots in the second half. Jahmyl Telfort led the offensive effort on Tuesday with 17 points, while Chris Doherty had a career-best 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Shaquille Walters also reached double digits with 10 points and had seven boards, all on the defensive end. Walter was seventh in the CAA in rebounding last season, averaging 6.6 per game, and he averaged 10.5 points while Telfort scored 11.8 in 2020-21.

The team is trying to compensate for the loss of Tyson Walker, who led the team in nearly every offensive category last year but transferred to Michigan State. The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Walters is tough for opponents to stop, and he knows the offense well enough to run the point when heeded. Walters shot better than 38 percent on threes last year and averaged more than a steal per game. The Huskies shot almost 44 percent from the field and more than 35 percent from beyond the arc last season, led by Walters and Telfort (36.6) and Jason Strong (37.2).

How to make Northeastern vs. Georgia State picks

SportsLine's model is leaning over on the point total, with the model suggesting six players will hit double digits in points. It also says one side of the spread is hitting in over 60 percent of simulations. You can only get the model's Georgia State vs. Northeastern pick at SportsLine.

So who wins Northeastern vs. Georgia State? And which side of the spread is hitting over 60 percent of the time? The Northeastern Huskies and William & Mary Tribe meet Friday in college basketball action at the Kaplan Arena. The Northeastern Huskies look to get a game above a .500 record. The William & Mary Tribe need a win to rebound from a 2-12 record.

The Northeastern Huskies are averaging 64.3 points on 43.8 percent shooting and allowing 67.1 points on 43.4 percent shooting. The Huskies are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 road games. The Tribe are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games and 5-16 ATS in their last 21 games overall. The over is 4-0 in Huskies last 4 overall. The under is 12-4 in Tribe last 16 overall. The road team is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings.

I’m not running to the window to lay chalk with the Northeastern Huskies, especially on the road, but this line indicates just how bad William & Mary is. The William & Mary Tribe can’t score the basketball, they struggle defensively, and they don’t cover numbers. There’s no reason to back the William & Mary Tribe until they show some signs of life somewhere. Give me Northeastern.

The Tribe are averaging 61.5 points per game on 40.2% shooting from the field. They are allowing opponents to score 72.2 points per game. They are shooting 65.4% from the free throw line.

The Northeastern Huskies are led in scoring by Shaquille Waters who averages 12.9 points and 5.1 rebounds for this team. Jahmyl Telfort averages 11.5 points and 2.3 rebounds a game for this team. Chris Doherty is the third leading scorer for the Huskies as he averages 11.2 points a game for this team.

Jahmyl Telfort had 16 points for the Huskies and  Tyreek Scott-Grayson added 15 points as they lost to Elon in their CAA opener. Chris Doherty added eight points and eight rebounds in the loss.

The Huskies are averaging 64.3 points per game on 43.8% shooting from the field. They are allowing opponents to score 67.1points per game. They are shooting 77.3% from the free throw line.

The Huskies are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss and are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a losing home record. The Huskies will need to bounce back after that embarrassing loss to Elon in their last game. The Huskies should be able to get the win, but 10 feels like a lot of points for a team that just got embarrassed outright. Tribe are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Friday games and should be able to take the momentum from their last win to keep this one close.
