Seeking Ontario Women's Masters:

The inaugural international men's masters indoor hockey festival held in Toronto in 2020 was a success. Upon popular request, the next tournament is planned for late January/early February 2022 in Ontario, and a women's division might be added depending on the numbers. This tournament serves both the purposes of practice for the national teams, and an opportunity for Ontario masters, who are not going to the Masters World Cup, to get together and have some fun and good competition.

We are also seeking Ontario female masters to participate in the new women's division. Please indicate your interest by filling in this Expression of Interest form, and we will contact you. You don't have to be on the national team to participate. You will be included in Ontario teams competing against one another/ against the Canadian national masters team(s)/ against international masters team(s).

This event is dependent on Covid development and the availability of indoor facility.

    Masters Hockey

Masters hockey is flourishing in the South with events at Club and Regional level. Club play starts at Over 40 for the men and Over 35 for the ladies. There are Club leagues all the way to Over 60 (men) and Regional teams play to Over 75 (men) and Over 60 (women).

    2021 Women's Festival

This summer in the absence of regional tournaments, except the O65, we are holding a special South Women’s Masters Festival on the 25 July at Basingstoke HC 13:00-17:00. Hockey 13:00-16:00 followed by tea outside all together. This will be a fun festival and a celebration of masters hockey in our Region. From this September the structure of hockey in England moves from five Regions to eight Areas. So this is a chance to say goodbye to the South which has been running since 1890.

The festival will be open to all women’s masters players who are 34 years or older by 31 Dec 2021. The entry has now closed.

    Club Cups

England Hockey run Club Cup and Plate events the entries are usually required by mid September. Events run at Over 40, 50 and 60 for the mens and Over 35 and 45 for women. For rules and full information click here. Clubs are allowed to pick a limited number of non-Club members to enable them to get a team out, the number varies by age group.

South run an Over Women's 40s Club League (click here for league table) and an Over 35s Women's Club Festival. Please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. Club Leagues

Leagues for men's and women's masters teams run weekly for the men on Saturdays and monthly for the women on Sundays. Many masters players are also playing in regular club sides and enjoying the sport with friends of all ages every week.

    Regional Teams

South Regional teams are also a great way to play a high level of hockey and meet up with other players from across the country. Many players from the South also represent their country and renew old friendships and on-pitch rivalries in Home Internationals, European and World Championships played all over the World.

If you would like to play masters hockey please This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to email the South Masters and we'll direct you to your nearest local club or see more on the England Hockey Website by clicking here.

Anyone born in, or before, 1985 is entitled to play Masters Hockey for their Region, or indeed for England. In the South we have Men's Masters Teams at ages Over 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70 and 75 and Women's Masters Teams at Over 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60 and 65.

In recent years we have been very successful at Regional Masters Tournaments, with many South players going on to represent England. But we feel that many potential players are unaware of the possibilities of representing the South and how our squads are selected.

    To be considered for selection:

    • men email team manager (below) giving date of birth, playing position, email address, phone number, club
    • women
      • only the Over 65s have a tournament this year, the squad will be assembled primarily using players from previous seasons, any new players wishing to be considered please contact This email address is being protected from spambots.
