Kortrijk miles basketball - very pity

SAN ANTONIO - Dallas Lincoln wasn't going to accept a 15th loss.

After losing 14 games in the regular season -- including the final game before the playoffs -- Lincoln continued its roll through the postseason and took home the Class 4A title with a 75-72 victory against Silsbee on Saturday here in the Alamodome.

It was Lincoln's fourth title and first since 2002.

"It taught us how not to lose," sophomore Austin Lamersay said of the losing streak.

Kortrijk Miles led the way for Lincoln (24-14) with 28 points and 11 rebounds.

While Lincoln celebrated, there was a somber feeling in the dome on Saturday.

Silsbee freshman guard Devon McCain was taken off on a stretcher with 5:15 remaining in the third quarter and taken to the hospital. He was unintentionally hit in the head by a teammate's elbow and fell hard to the court where he hit his head again on the court.

"The first thing we did was prayed," Lincoln coach Cedric Patterson said. "That's actually bigger than the game itself."

The game was delayed almost 10 minutes for the injury. Both teams were emotionally shaken up by the incident, and both teams said a prayer as a group on the sidelines.

"There's a lot of pain as you can expect," Silsbee coach Joe Sigler said. "Right now prayers are with Devon."

Sigler said if allowed his team would try to see McCain at the hospital later that evening.

Lincoln led 52-39 at the time of the injury and Silsbee (31-6) rallied for its fallen teammate, while Silsbee fans on Twitter adopted the hashtag #DoItForDevon on the social network.

The deficit was cut to nine points, 63-54, before the start of the fourth quarter while Silsbee battled back to tie the game at 63 on a basket by McCain's older brother Michael.

It was a frantic stretch by Lincoln that was calmed by Miles and Jabari Richardson who each scored four points during an 8-2 run to give Lincoln a 71-65 lead. That push was enough for Lincoln to trade free throws and close out the game.

Lincoln led by 11 points at halftime after finding it's shooting touch at the free-throw line and from beyond the 3-point arc.

Lincoln went 15-for-20 on free throws in the first half and converted on 12 of 14 in the first quarter before it capitalized from long range in the second quarter. Leading 28-24, Lincoln converted on four straight 3-pointers and added a free throw during a 13-4 ru

  • UTS outrebounded West Alabama 36-28.
  • Brown and Welch both hit three triples each.

NUMBERS GAME

8 – Eight players that hit the court tonight scratched the scorecard.

9 – Tad Sivley pulled down nine of the 36 Firehawk rebounds.

3 – Adarion Hudson had three steals.

First impressions.  He looks like he has a good first step and long arms.  Most impressive part for me is his stroke.  He looks like he has a very clean high release.  Similar to McCants, tough to tell what he can do against top level competition, but he looks every bit the part of a D1 basketball player.  Has a long stride too.  Almost looks like he is taller than 6'4" with his wingspan when he is extended.  Very nice videos.

This made my day! Excellent shooting form. Shoots right over defenders that are up tight on him. Strong finisher at the rim. Even showed some post up skills.

Take a look at the schools the 15 players ahead him signed to play for. Kentucky, Kansas, Baylor, Oregon, etc. Looks like we got a good one. Way to go Jans!!

Love that Coach Jans' first recruit is a BASKETBALL player with a jump shot. No more "athletic" projects that don't pan out.

This kid reminds me a Dejounte Murray type player with his length and shooting ability. He definitely will help fill the void left by Mr. Huggins. Welcome to Aggieland, Kortrijk!  Now how the hell do you pronounce your first name?

When you look down this Top 100 Texas HS prospect list, you can see this kid is legit. There are players below him signed by Cincinnati, SMU, UTEP... etc. A very good pick up this late in the signing period. Hopefully he is eligible to play right away. If Jans does intend to red-shirt him, hopefully Jans has other JCs and/or grad transfers also signing to add depth for next season.

Because of depth issues he may be pressed into service and that may be a good thing.

One possible caution - it is possible that the reason he had not signed was not qualifying academically.  If so, he will be red shirting.  I hope that is not the case.

There are few kids that are ready to play from day 1 at NMSU.  Most need that redshirt.  We'll see what Jans wants to do to build the program.  Guys that will be here in 2 years include Harris, Chuha, N'Dir (assuming medical redshirt), M. Jones (assuming medical redshirt), Hadley, McCants.  Plus we will probably have at least 1-2 Juco kids and additional HS kids between now and then as well.  So team is set up well for 2018, if he wants to wait on Miles. But yes, we simply don't have depth at guard.  And N'Dir is coming off an injury, so who knows what kind of load he can handle.  It will be interesting to watch.

It's still a good signee. The kid is very impressive. Reminds me of Jahmar Young. I'm not sure why you are hating on the kid. If you are going to become a Chris Jans hater and hate on every recruit he signs, then you might as well go cheer for UNM. We don't need this negativity.

This made my day! Excellent shooting form. Shoots right over defenders that are up tight on him. Strong finisher at the rim. Even showed some post up skills.

Take a look at the schools the 15 players ahead him signed to play for. Kentucky, Kansas, Baylor, Kortrijk miles basketball, etc. Looks like we got a good one. Way to go Jans!!

Love that Coach Jans' first recruit is a BASKETBALL player with a jump shot. No more "athletic" projects that don't pan out.

This kid reminds me a Dejounte Murray type player with his length and shooting ability, kortrijk miles basketball. He definitely will help fill kortrijk miles basketball void left by Mr. Huggins. Welcome to Aggieland, Kortrijk miles basketball  Now how the hell do you pronounce your first name?

When you look down this Top 100 Texas HS prospect list, you can see this kid is legit. There are players below him signed by Cincinnati, SMU, UTEP. etc. A very good pick up this late in the signing period. Hopefully he is eligible to play right away. If Jans does intend to red-shirt him, hopefully Jans has other JCs and/or grad transfers also signing to add depth for next season.

I doubt he will red-shirt. We need depth at the guard position. The kid will see quality minutes as a freshman.

Plus we will probably have at least 1-2 Juco kids and additional HS kids between now and then as well, kortrijk miles basketball.  So team is set up well for 2018, if he wants to wait on Miles. But yes, we simply don't have depth at guard.  And N'Dir is coming off an injury, so who knows what kind of load he can handle.  It will be interesting to watch.

That is dated from October of 2015. He is no longer 16th.

It's still a good signee. The kid is very impressive. Reminds me of Jahmar Young. I'm not sure why you are hating on the kid.
