It sounds like something is caught in the inner spin basket, causing it to bog down and not turn freely when its spinning. Look closely at all the holes in the spin basket. I have seen where a nail or screw will get into the hole of the spin basket and dig into the out tub keeping the basket from spinning. Look close because if that is what happen all you may see is the head of the screw or nail in the spin basket hole.

If you find no nail or screw in the spin basket holes, Its best to pull the inner spin basket out and check to see if something like a wash cloth or something small got in between the tubs too and making it not spin properly.

Also while you have the inner spin basket out check your tub drive block, to make sure it is NOT stripped.

Top Asked Questions

Why does my Maytag washer not agitate but still spin?
If your Maytag washer won’t agitate but still spins, a likely cause is a broken agitator. However, a faulty transmission, damaged washplate (if there is no agitator), or a worn-out drive block could be to blame. Your best bet is inspecting the agitator/washplate first and then going from there; you might need to call a pro.

How do you fix too much detergent in a Maytag washing machine?
If you’re dealing with too much detergent in your load of laundry, the solution is simple – use less detergent! Since Maytag washing machines are now High Efficiency (HE), they need even less detergent than in the past. Check out your detergent bottle, make sure your soap of choice is HE-friendly, and follow the instructions on the label.

What should I do if my Kenmore washer won't agitate?
If the washer won't agitate, replacing the agitator repair kit may solve the problem. The kit contains the agitator components that are most likely to wear out and/or fail. If any of the parts are worn out, stripped, or damaged, replace the kit.

Why is my Maytag Bravos washer not pumping water?
Maytag Dependable Care washer - wont pump: It is a good idea to always check the drain hose hose for kinks, the pump also can get objects caught in it (socks, lint ball, etc), lastly check the pump it self. Sometimes the impeller inside the pump can break free from the shaft and the pump will turn but wont pump the water.

MVWC6ESWW1 Maytag Washer - Overview

If you load a washing machine unevenly, it will spin out of balance. But our washer seemed to make noise during the spin cycle regardless of how the load was distributed. I suspected that the suspension or balancing springs were getting tired, and ordered a replacement set.

First I disconnected the washer from the water and power supply, then I laid it on its back.

The tub rested on the back of the washer, making two of the three suspension springs relax, and they were pretty easy to pull out with pliers. After the first two were out, I had to support the tub with a couple 2x4s to relax the third suspension spring.

Installation was the reverse of removal - install the lower suspension spring, remove the 2x4s, then install the two other suspension springs.

The tub balancing spring was easy to replace, and probably wasn't the cause of the problem.

With $25 in parts and about 15 minutes, my washer spins much more quietly.

Why is my Maytag Top Load Washer not Draining, not Spinning, and/or Leaving Wet Loads?

Is the drain hose kinked, or is the drain clogged?

Make sure that the drain hose is not kinked or clogged. Straighten the hose for adequate water flow. Remove any blockage from the drain hose, drainpipe or utility sink. Use the U-shaped drain hose form on the drain hose, and secure the drain hose. See the Installation Instructions for further details.

drain hose.JPG

Is the end of the drain hose more than 96" (244 cm) above the floor?

The drainpipe (standpipe) height requirements are 96" (244 cm) maximum and 39" (99 cm) minimum. Your washer will not be able to adequately pump the water out of the washer if the drainpipe (standpipe) exceeds 96" (244 cm). In this case, the water may flow back into the washer. See the Installation Instructions for details; enter your product model number in the search tool below to find them online.

Was a gentle or delicate cycle or Low Spin speed selected?

Gentle cycles, such as gentle, delicate, or handwash, use slow spins to keep fabrics from stretching and wrinkling. Slow spinning also leaves more water in the load. To remove more water, select a cycle that uses high spin speeds. A cycle or fabric selection such heavy duty or super has higher spin speeds and will leave less water in loads. Always follow your clothing care label to determine what cycle to use that is best for the garments being washed.

Were you washing a large load?

The wash load must be balanced and not tightly packed. Large or unbalanced loads can cause reduced spin speed and wet clothes at the end of the cycle.

Do you see a lot of suds?

High amounts of detergent can create too many suds. In some cases, the suds can stop the washer from pumping out water and spinning. Always measure detergent and follow the manufacturer's directions for the amount to use. If you have very soft water, use less detergent. Use only HE High Efficiency detergent in this washer.

CLICK HERE for more information about using HE detergent

Is the lid open?

If the lid is lifted during a cycle, the machine will stop. To continue the cycle, close the lid and you may have to select the Start button again. The lid must be closed during operation for the washer to fill with water, and then to wash, drain, rinse and spin.

Watch the below video for more information on proper drain hose installation.

Maytag Top Load Washer Not Spinning? Try This…

Piles of wet clothes and longer drying times are hallmark signs of spin cycle issues, one of the most common washer problems. Are you wondering, “why is my Maytag top load washer not spinning?” The wrong cycle or spin speed may be selected, resulting in slower rotations or none at all. Our troubleshooting guide pinpoints the most likely reasons for this problem, as well as the right solutions.

How to Fix a Maytag Top Load Washer Not Spinning

While a Maytag top load washer not spinning often has DIY solutions, there are times when a professional repair is recommended. Here’s how pinpointing the cause can solve the problem when your washer won’t spin.

Check the Wash Cycle and Spin Setting

One of the most common reasons for a Maytag top load washer not spinning is an incorrect wash cycle or spin setting. GENTLE, HANDWASH, or DELICATE settings utilize slower spin speeds for more fragile fabrics. Some model washers also allow you to vary the spin speed, making it slower or more rapid, for different loads.

Before starting a wash cycle, make sure you’ve selected the right setting and spin speed for your particular load.

Make Sure the Wash Load is Properly Sized and Balanced

Overloading the washer with too many items or a single item that’s too large can result in a Maytag washer not spinning clothes dry. If the washer drum is too heavy or unbalanced, with too much weight on one side of the drum, it can slow the spin speed. This will leave clothes wet at the end of the wash cycle and result in longer drying times.

Follow these tips to make sure your wash load spins properly:

  • Check your user manual to determine your washer’s capacity. Avoid overloading by only filling the washer ¾ of the way full with each load.
  • Balance a large or heavy item with one of a similar size. If your top load washer has an agitator, make sure large items are evenly arranged around it.
  • If the load becomes unbalanced during the spin cycle, pause the cycle and reposition items evenly around the washer drum before resuming.

Assess the Lid Switch Assembly

If your Maytag washer isn’t spinning when you close the lid, the lid switch assembly may be faulty. This switch acts as a safety device, signaling the washer to start spinning if the lid is properly closed. If the washer doesn’t start spinning when you close the lid, make sure no obstructions are blocking it from closing correctly.

Does the lid seem to close properly, with no obstructions? In this case, the lid switch assembly may be faulty. If multimeter testing of the switch shows a lack of continuity, it should be replaced.

Inspect the Drive Belt

When you find your washer spin cycle not working properly, it’s possible the drive belt is damaged. This rubber belt encircles the washer drum via two pulleys, supporting the weight of the drum and helping it spin. If the belt is damaged, it won’t be able to support the drum or facilitate turning. When this happens, the drum won’t spin at all or will spin more loudly than usual.

Inspect the drive belt to determine if it’s stretched, frayed, or torn. If there is visible damage, the drive belt requires replacement.

Maytag top load washer not spinning

Examine the Motor Coupling

A failed motor coupling can also be responsible for a washer spin cycle not working. The motor coupling connects the washer motor and transmission, conveying power to the washer drum.

While the coupling can fail over time, repeated heavy loads can cause it to fail prematurely. When it does, the washer drum will be without power and unable to spin. If the motor coupling has broken, it requires replacement.

In most cases the washer will basically work normally except for a horrible noise when the washer is washing or spinning. The washer's drive pulley can become loose and slip down causing a loud, fast ticking sound whenever the motor is running. In extreme cases the washer's belt and/or motor pulley can be damaged as a result. If you catch it early, simply add some thread lock onto the pulley nut and tighten it back on.

A loose pulley sounds something like this.

Sound Description: Fast agitation function, slow agitation function, then spin function

Washer Actuator and Tub Sensor Problems:

This washer sensor problem usually will show up in the form of a fault code like F7E1, F7E5, or F7E7. and the washer will not sam wright football or run properly.

Washer lid lock Problems:

The lid latch has been a sore spot on this washer type. Most often washer lid latch problems result in the washer not starting or a fault code such as F5E1, F5E2, or F5E3. The washer's lid strike attached to the lid can also swell with rust and not properly operate the lock.

Centennial Washer Balance Problems:

The Maytag Centennial washer's tub is suspended on 4 suspension maytag mvwc6esww1 won t spin located on the outer corners of the washer's tub. The spring portion of these tub suspension rods have been known to become soft and allow the tub to bounce, leading to the washer regularly going off balance and banging the inside of the washer during spin. To check the washer's suspension, press down quickly on each side of the washer's drum. The Illinois wesleyan womens lacrosse washer's drum should quickly jump back to it's original position and stop when released and not bounce. If the washtub bounces or feels particularly soft you may need to replace the suspension kit.

Washer Gearcase Problems:

Not as common as some other washer issues, maytag mvwc6esww1 won t spin, but much more costly is a bad center bearing. Loud, even, grinding with tub movement are commonly caused by a bad bearing that is inside the gearcase.
